Class Questions

I'm new to Chicago and wanted to know if adults were allowed in the class at Westview.  Also, are there masks available to borrow?  I have my own jacket, cord and epee, but no mask yet.

I guess my first question would be to ask what kind of fencing background you have. If you've already taken a beginning class, then sure, the practice at westview would be what you want. I can probably loan you a mask for a couple of practices if you need one. However, if you're in need of a beginning class, we don't really cover that material at westview, we mostly just fence. I do however teach a couple of classes in the area.

I took lessons in Dallas for about 2 years so open fencing will be perfect.  Any suggestions on masks?  I 've been looking at Uhlmann, Blue Gaunlet and Leon Paul 1600 FIE models.

The leon paul comfort fit has been getting rave reviews from the people here who have it, just takes time to get it adjusted right. I use an ulhmann FIE, which I like, but I'd probably get that leon paul next. If you're looking for a cheap mask, consider absolute fencing (absolutefencinggear.com) as well. I don't mind blue gauntlet jackets, but I'm not crazy about anything else they make (although I bought my ulhmann stuff FROM amanda chen, who is a co-owner of BG)
